Scenario
With the aim of increasing the efficiency of internal communications and optimize the mobile access to strategic and operating
information located both on the Internet and its legacy systems, an important Group operating in the Energy sector decided
to provide its business Top Management around the world with an Enterprise Mobile Portal. This had to be integrated with its
backend systems and enhanced with custom applications to display Key Performance Indicators on a single screen.
Mobile Customer Relationship Management has a strategic importance. It is crucial for this organization to rely on a Mobile
Service Platform able to support different mobile channels and range of current and future mobile devices. GAIA fully met
all these requirements.
Solution
Considering the initially expressed needs and the foreseen developments to offer Mobile Services to a network of collaborators,
business partners and customers and in order to support the highest number of device types, Reply consulted the Customer to
select a open source architecture and not a proprietary platform.
Reply integrated the Mobile Service Platform with a variety of heterogeneous data sources: the corporate Intranet, other
enterprise internal systems and some Internet services. Thanks to GAIA Reply™, all the information and services are readily
available to any kind of end user and mobile device.
For the Top Management, who was supplied with BlackBerry devices, Reply designed a special client application to achieve a
richer user experience and greater user friendliness. The client application was directly interfaced with GAIA Reply™. All
other users (collaborators, business partners and customers) can interact with mobile services browsing or messaging, through
their preferred device: the implemented Mobile Service Platform supports indistinctly mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs.
Technical Architecture
Reply designed the framework according to the SOA paradigm, as a set of easily extendible components, and implemented it with
JAVA and XML technologies. Client applications are based on the Java 2 Micro-Edition platform.
Security
In order to protect sensitive business data, Reply has integrated Strong Authentication and user profiling functionalities
in the final solution; all the information (messages, enterprise documents and reports) exchanged with mobile devices is encrypted.
Seamless Evolution
Thanks to the Mobile Service Platform, it’s very easy and economic to design and implement new mobile services for the Energy
Group. New releases of mobile services with extended functionalities are immediately available through GAIA Reply™; client
applications are distributed in a wireless and full automatic way, without intervention of technical support personnel neither
complicated installation procedures, to avoid the involvement of the precious time of the Top Management.

experience allows devising on line business models. GAIA Reply optimizes content display and navigation and makes it ergonomic
